Challenge #02634-G077: Putting it Together

(Based on experience with Harm-OCD)

The new human on board came highly recommended. They left every area they worked in cleaner and safer than it was when they started, seemed to always find and fix issues before they ever had a chance to become a problem, were quick to talk down anyone that started to become angry or frightened, and even seemed to never have issues with Silly-Seasons. The only issue was that they refused to work with Havenworlders…

Anytime they were around Havenworlders they would become quiet and place their hands behind their back. While never directly rude they would take any excuse they could to leave and often would never directly look at any Havenworlder near them. This gave them a unpleasant reputation despite being highly regarded for their skills.

This continues until a Havenworlder tries to bond with the "quiet human" by silently sitting next to them while they are reading. The human upon noticing the Havenworlder jumps away hard enough to knock the Havenworlder over. The Havenworlder is unharmed but the human is now obviously panicking whispering, "I'm sorry," to themselves repeatedly. -- Anon Guest

Humans can be very strange. Galactics know this. Pack-bonding with some is easier than with others. Conversely, bonding with some is harder than with others. Human Vae was one of the Humans who was difficult to bond with. They were hard-working, safety oriented, and tidy to a fault. They didn't participate in Silly Season. They didn't participate in anything.

When invited into social activities, they rarely responded at all. If they did respond, they were lucky to get a "No, thanks," when the default was, "maybe later." This was always delivered in an anxious mumble, and followed by their retreat to a different space in which to work. Usually something more confined, and increasingly difficult to access.

Companion Firrith consulted the latest update of the Human Manual, and logically deduced that Human Vae was one of the quiet ones, who could companionably share space and consider that a bonding activity. Firrith selected a space of Human Vae's downtime and occupied a roost inside Human Vae's personal space and joined them in the activity of reading through some form of media.

Bread Day the Second!

I got enough wholemeal flour to make a loaf and keep the starter alive, so I'm making some proper sourdough that hopefully won't go flat as a tack this time.

I also made some pancakes and I think I've perfected the recipe enough that I can put the final version up on my foodie blog.

The bread will likely appear there tomorrow. Sourdough takes time. Lots of time. Lots of time and heaps of flour.

I only realised yesterday that the reason

Challenge #02633-G076: For Best Results

you were hired by the local baron to hunt a beast in the forest of veils. you armed yourself with the proper tools and weapons, gather information from the locals about the beast, that when you came across new information from a witch that guard the forest. when you learn the witch location you bolted there. the witch wasn't hostile, friendly even. the witch didn't tell you much, most of it you already know. although there are things that not even the

FuuuuuuUUUUUUCK!

Day 4 of official home quarantine procedures. Mayhem has work, and I started my morning thinking that my cat was going to die.

Apparently, when cats taste something they don't like, they smack their chops and make a lot of spit bubbles. I learned this because I spent a panicked half hour and $100 taking Pippi to the vet to find out that she wasn't poisoned or victim to a surprise disease.

AUGH.

Lots of public places prefer to keep their distance

Challenge #02632-G075: An Interesting Truce

A rumor is heard of a palace where monsters were holding hundreds of kobolds as slaves. A large castle filled with treasure, all the kobolds that were seen going in and out wearing a silver, blue, and gold woven neckbands. Almost all the doors to the various servant areas were sized for the kobolds as well. Along the road outside the castle, the graves of failed raiders where, instead of gravestones, their skulls still sat upon the spikes where the heads once

Officially Day 3 of Quarantine

I've more or less been self-isolated for a majority of my time. Introverts are ahead of the learning curve on that count. It turns out my productive output lately has been tied to my emotional state. Therefore, I'm working on my mental health with my own personal regime of treatment.

  • Only viewing new news about the continuing plague crisis
  • Singing when the mood suits me no matter what the family has to say
  • Seeking out some new experiences to enrich my noggin

Challenge #02631-G074: Desperate Measures

You’re not wrong but I don’t want you to be right -- Anon Guest

Phryx stared at her Human companion. "Did you mean that to be confusing as it sounds, or are you having one of your verbal shortcuts again?" Verbal shortcuts were always a problem with Humans, especially on the Edge. They had ways of expressing themselves that were difficult to translate at best and needed a seminar to understand at worst.

"Oh. Right. Whoops. Okay. Brief version: Yes,

Whoof...

In the annals of "that escalated quickly", we have:

  • Queensland closing its borders
  • Parents keeping their kids at home if they can
  • Schools remaining open for the parents that don't have anywhere else safe for the kids to go
  • People fistfighting THE ELDERLY for more TP than they probably need [yikes!]
  • Empty shelves... empty shelves everywhere
  • There's been mass layoffs and a subsequent mass run on firkin Centrelink
  • ...and in other news, I'm shifting where my stories go because Steem decided to

Challenge #02630-G073: A Questionable Survival Mechanism

As the Galactic, not a deathworlder, but not a delicate havenworlder either, looked down at the infant human, they had to wonder...

"How does something so small and delicate grow into something so dangerous?"

The infant, seemingly in answer, smiled, then reached up and gently hugged the sentient holding it. Before releasing a truly noxious fart. -- Anon Guest

Every species not equal to a Deathworlder tends to look a lot like a Havenworlder to the Deathworlder in question. Some Deathworlders are

Self Quarantine!

We're keeping Miss Chaos at home this week and next week. Beloved is staying home. I'm braving the wilds of the local shopping center to see what supplies I can acquire that we also need.

I am only sticking to what we need.

With all the best luck, we should stay plague free for the interim. I am the most at risk out of my family. Yet, I am the one taking the most risk by going out there and acquiring whatever.

Challenge #02629-G072: Impossible Consequences

Human Dave was an interesting individual. His pack bonding ability is astounding even among his fellow Humans. The downside being where ever Dave goes chaos ensues. Even humans with high restraints have hard time controlling themselves. There are few Humans around Dave that are able to, in human terms “keep a tight leash on him”. I was able to ask one of them about more information about Dave. Saying that him and two other take shifts restraining Dave but whenever the day

Stream Morning!

I'm functioning on a thin chain of naps and a lot of caffeine this morrow. Yeeps.

I owe a thing about my bread since both loaves came out... edible. Not perfect, but at least edible.

Perfection will take time.

Longer than I expect because everyone and their kid brother's dog has emptied the shelves of literally anything that could plausibly be long-term food.

I can only hope that sanity returns before I run out of enough flour to keep my starters alive

The "Last Lie" is a recurring trend and well-known trait in the Amalgam universe. Yet, I haven't yet read a story where the "Last Lie" has come true. It seems that our human protagonists always manage to cheat death.

That being said, I think it would be interesting to see a (or a group of) Havenworlder(s) discovering what the Last Lie is the

Bread Fail!

People should make their instructions (a) clearer and (b) linear. If you're doing an instructional video for noobs, don't make a big deal out of the allegedly proper way and then mumble something about never doing that in person.

Share. The method. That actually. WORKS!

::Anguished ASD gargling::

So yeah. Instructional video said "use this portion" with way more importance than what the guy who made it actually did. So my dough was too moist and the loaf turned into a roofing

Challenge #02627-G070: When You Assume...

Considering the cultural difference between western people and eastern people, how would aliens react to someone from Asia?

Asian people tend to be less touchy-feely, more reserved and quiet than someone from America for example.

How would aliens react when the shy-looking, timid Japanese girl, who joined their ship as a chef, turns out to be a master of martial arts and make dinner from the would-be pirates because they belittled her? Or how loud she gets when she's properly drunk... --
