Concrete Day!

I'm doing what I can to get the writing things done early so a majority of my day can be taken up by concrete. I only have the vaguest recollection of manipulating the stuff myself, and most of that was being allowed to scribe my name into a slab with a stick.

I was very smol at the time.

This is a cubic meter of concrete to be shaped into a floor for a cat enclosure.

...and of course my ability to focus has gone out the window. Wish me luck. You might not get a story until hours after dark.

(Also, Why isn't this a legit anime!!!!) -- Anon Guest

[AN: Well, I made it 181 days without using anyone else's IP. Can't get any money from the anthology of this year now. Sigh. Oh well. Totes worth it for this one]

Reach for the stars, Yukanna... Their power is our power. If you can feel them... you will never fail. Grandfather had said that, when he had taken Yukanna to see the ribbon lights

...ow

It's stopped raining, however temporarily it might be doing so. However, my spidey senses adjusted septum is telling me that rain should be coming by. Soon to now.

Please, rain, do kindly fuck off to the dryer regions until we have that concrete nice and set. There's a peach.

Today, Beloved and I are boxing out the concrete zone. I am also unfucking the house, writing my Instant, and potentially scribing 1K words further towards this week's goal of 9K. If I

Challenge #02371-F181: Colour-coded For Inconvenience

"Don't touch that, it's hot."

"It doesn't look hot."

"Hot things are red on Terra." -- Anon Guest

"Uh. Not exactly," said a nearby Human. "Not all red things are hot, and not all hot things are red. For your safety, check for radiant heat," they demonstrated, holding their hand above the surface and gradually approaching touching it until they pulled away. "This one is actually hot. See?"

The tourists huddled together a little. "That is how you test for heat on

Okay, Here's teh PLN

[Yes, I spelled it like that on purpose]

Today's the day we anticipate sunshine [It's still dark as I write this] and a further week of solar appearance. However, everything is still damp, so we have a day for things to dry out.

Tomorrow, my Beloved and I are boxing out where the concrete goes, and either that afternoon or Wednesday, the concrete flooring is going in! Nobody's going to be able to move that mofo even during the zombie apocalypse.

Wednesday,

Challenge #02370-F180: Stone Tools and Bear Skins

An alien crew hires a discount group of human bodyguards to protect them on an expedition to a heavily forested/jungled planet to research the planet life. Murphy's law happens and the alien crew find out they hired the human group that is , as a group, a hybrid of MacGyver, John Wick, and the the A-Team. -- Anon Guest

One of the launch seats, heavily charred, fell out of the tree with a solid thud. The Human who dislodged it had got

More Shenanigans!

We thought it would be a simple stapling job. Half an hour, tops. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Nope.

It was the archetypical "five minute job" in which the client -Capt. S.- seriously misunderestimated how complicated the job was.

Have you ever tried to tailor-cut wood with a staplegun? No? That's the kind of job we had. We needed tools and the ones we had access to were lost, broken, rusted, or incomprehensible.

So of course that necessitated a visit to the

Challenge #02369-F179: A Big Choice

"You have a darkness in you, that’s all too clear. You can imagine yourself doing terrible things. But that's just your imagination. For all the looming intimidation factor, when you act, I can tell you still have standards... however few they may be... and there’s some lines I’m certain even you would refuse to cross."

"Hrmph... You can't know that for sure..."

"I feel it. I have faith in you. Maybe not to always do the right thing, but

Hocus Pocus

I really gotta focus.

Beloved stayed home to help me yesterday, and today the entire frame is complete and awaiting Tuesday. Tuesday is when all the fun happens.

The boxing, the concrete pour, the levelling thereof and all the jiggery-pokery. After that bullshit is over with, I have to harass my beloved into constructing the walkway that will connect the cat shelter with the main structure of the house.

Of course, I still have to go over said structure with Spakfilla and

Challenge #02368-F178: Culinary Explorers

An inter-species cooking class is very interesting to observe, and better to participate in. -- Anon Guest

Some people just never learn to cook. Why would they? Obtaining foodstuffs from vendors is easy and they then have more time to spend on other enjoyable pursuits. There are those who insist that cooking is a vital survival skill, and they are repeatedly ignored by those who plan on never having to survive like that. It is far cheaper, faster, and overall safer to

Fighting the Fight

It's going to be raining today, and I can't let that stop me, because we have a whole rainy weekend to get anything done in.

Pray I don't electrocute my stupid self with all the water zipping around. If I'm gonna hurt myself to the point where I can't work on this thing anymore, it's going to be on the eve of the day where I can plausibly get help to work on this thing.

Just watch. This is the day I

Challenge #02367-F177: Impossible Dreamers

If you think that "something" is impossible to do... Give it to humans and they will make it "possible" -- Anon Guest

Never tell a Human what's impossible. -- Galactic Alliance saying.

They had once said that travelling faster than light was impossible, just like time travel. Humans managed to find one-way wormholes, which utilised both, and then proceeded to use them to seed their colonies all over surprising corners of space. Humans, it seemed, accomplished six impossible things before teatime.

The Imp's Arse

So now the problem is getting the parts to come together for a crucial last few centimeters/millimeters/nanometers because working with warped wood is just a firkin barrel of arseholes. I suspect aggressive work with the angle grinder may eventually save the day. Mostly because tensioning that beeswax sure didn't.

I'm so close to finishing the structure and it's looking like we could maybe put the concrete in on Tuesday. TUESDAY.

Challenge #02366-F176: Fight, Flight, or...

Fight or flight, the natural reactions to fear. Though, people don't mention one, freeze. People like to ignore that possibility because it tends to put them in danger. Unfortunately for them, it is real, it is dangerous, and it is terrifying if you happen to be the one experiencing it. -- Anon Guest

Most Humans can be relied upon to act quickly in an emergency. Most of them. Their presence in any place of inherent hazard is reassuring to anyone in field

So close!

I have one post waiting for bolts. One more post waiting to be situated that needs some judicious grinding to get it to fit. Alas, Mayhem was silly enough to wear bare feet on the building site yesterday, so we need him to remember his firkin boots, this time around.

It's so close to the next step. Even with muddy ground.

I just want this DONE, dangit.

Speaking of getting things done, I've been able to get 1K words into Kingdom of
