Challenge #02025-E201: One Confounding Encounter on Argus Seventeen

Like all great things in life, you need to poke it to get it to do anything. -- TheDragonsFlame

Draes boggled at the merchant. "That is such a uniquely Human phrase," ze said. "Is it absolutely true? Will patience reward those who wait?"

"Uh. No," said the merchant. "If you wait, it does nothing. You have to interact with it to make it go."

"Hmf," again, almost typically Human. Hir own peoples much preferred a fully automatic system. Humans were compelled to twiddle. They liked to finesse their machines. "I will take a sample machine for my kind to adapt to our own needs. We have far more important things to do than micro-manage a machine."

Dilly Dally

So I managed to dawdle away ONE AND A HALF HOURS this morning. I don't even know how it happened. I'm that firkin dumminz'd today.

I lie. I have my suspicions of how I did it:

  • "Just checking" on the Factorio world that my love and I are fooling around with [gotta research them all!]
  • "Just one more" video with edutainment value on YouTube
  • "Just one" little check of my favourite tags on Tumblr

You can 'just' your entire day away with

Challenge #02024-E200: Remarkably Similar

[ a race of sapient felines encounter Humans and their pets ] -- Anon Guest

Ahnrau hadn't expected a close encounter like this one. She had been hunting valuable asteroids when a shard of a distant impact sent her vessel spiralling out of control. The last thing she remembered before the spin blacked her out was identifying another vessel on a collision path...

She was messed up. She could feel it. But... she was also on the mend. The room she was in was

Fudgenuts

The entry I just posted was actually meant to go up yesterday. Whoopsydoodles.

I forget the most incredibly mundane things.

But I shall make a concerned effort to remember this Wordpress Wednesday. Even though I've only the vaguest ideas concerning the topic for this week.

I'm sure I could come up with something interesting, regardless. We'll see.

I have eight minutes to finish here and maybe post another Blast From my Past. And those are going to run out soon, so my

The Quest Begins

I have a list of publishers who will take works without agents to back them up. I'm going to look up the submission guidelines for three of them and go attempt to sell myself.

If they can handle Adapting then they can handle anything else I come out with f'r sure.

And getting something Out There might get me the representation I have been fruitlessly seeking for so very, very long.

I pretty much have to sell Adapting so I can afford

Challenge #02023-E199: Home-Going

What if the reason aliens are uniform across their world is because every species has a deep, intrinsic connection with their home planet. So colonising/terraforming a new planet is considered a form of disownment, as it breaks the connection with your home world. Humans connection is much weaker than most other species, but it allows us to still see humans across the galaxy as HUMANS rather than traitors, or a different "breed" of humanity. -- Sarah

Challenge #02022-E198: May They Pass You By

Can we have some more adventures with the "minor horsemen of the Apocollapse". Namely Panic, Screaming, Chaos and Flailing. -- Knitnan

There's many minor horsepersons of the Apocollapse. And seemingly infinite combinations of just four of them. Some of them can even get their collective shit together enough to ride. But then again, they never really ride anywhere big.

"We're going to be LATE!" Panic shrieked.

Screaming was running around their shared flat making a loud noise. That was what Screaming did

New Limits

In a valliant effort to save my diabetic Beloved from a sugar overdose, I threw myself onto half a tub of unexploded Häagen Däazs Strawberry and Cream ice cream.

I am paying for it now.

No puffy fingers, thank goodness, but I am having an asthma flare-up that will likely end in a dose on Max. OR it's Sneezin' and Wheezin' Season and the sugar has exacerbated an attack.

::mumble:: and I gained another half a kilo or so. Whoops.

Mayhem threw

Challenge #02021-E197: Volatile Situation

“Hold on. YOUR PLANET RAINS WHAT?!!?!”

“Umm... water?”

“Water. The highly corrosive, extremely reactive liquid.”

“I mean, yeah. But...”

“HOLD ON. WHY IS THE WATER ACIDIC? IS YOUR PLANET TRYING TO KILL YOU??!?”

“Oh that? It’s fine. Just the carbon dioxide in the air making it slightly acidic.”

“Define ‘slightly’.”

“Umm... ph5 ish? So about x100 more concentrated than pure water? It’s honestly fine, if you think this is bad, you haven’t seen the ACTUAL acid rain on earth.

Corner Turn

When something changes, we say that we've "turned a corner". Sometimes, it's deeper into the maze, but for me... well. I think things are looking up.

Our higher protein diet adjustment lets us have a little more freedom with the other things we have with said protein. Which means we can have the occasional treat.

Last night, it was small tubs of Häagen Däazs. The most luxurious ice cream on the market. Let me tell you, I have never tasted it before

Challenge #02020-E196: Strange Bedfellows

Humanity as a whole is known as many things to many different species. Yes, while they are terrifying deathworlders more than capable of destroying everyone and everything, they’ve always been willing to lend a helping hand to all those who ask, and even those who don’t. So was it really that big a surprise when, after a powerful warmongering race declared war on humanity that half the universe flocked to humanity’s aid? -- Anon Guest

For every bully, there

Oofty Goofty

So here's my morning:

  • Lie in bed until my back really complains
  • Attempt to get my work done
  • Trip over Factorio and decide to "just finish" one thing
  • Beloved shows me how to work with factory patterns
  • Whoops, it's time to go get the meat
  • Go fetch half a pig
  • Beloved mislays their wallet, forcing me (over-budget this week) to pay for it out of my hard-saved cashola
  • Promises to pay it back are briefly stalled as Beloved attempts to figure out

Challenge #02019-E195: Lost and Found in Space

Wait, what happens to the poor guy in space in “Show Me the Way...”???

Does he find his way home or does he make space into his new home? I’m so curious now. -- Anon Guest

Deeeeep Breath...

Today is possibly the first day where I don't have to go out and do anything or spend any money.

Well. Apart from the option of brat-fetching late in the afternoon.

My life has been turned upside-down this week because Mayhem's suspected gallstones [we still have to see whether they is or they aint] have had me all over everywhere like a mad knitter's stash.

So I forgot a few things. Didn't get around to a few things. And am madly using

Challenge #02018-E194: After Math

And then she spoke. She was xir’s friend, xir’s confidant, xir’s companion through thick and thin. She was the one xir trusted above anyone else. But she is also dangerous, deadly, and vicious; a deathworlder before all else, a human at heart. Xir will never forget those three words for as long as xir lives:

“Actually, I can.” -- Anon Guest
