Challenge #04673-L289: One in a Million

A drone from a hive mind is mistakenly left behind when the scouting party leaves the planet behind. Now an entity which has never conceived of a singular identity must survive in a wilderness. -- Deathshead419

We are Xaqi, and we seek knowledge. We seek resources without conflict. Harm to the hive is harm to all with the swarm, we are one. We know us. We sense all of us. It is as it has always been.

Until now.

We cannot sense our swarm any more. There was panic, and rushing for safety and... silence. We cannot feel our others. We cannot sense... the rest of us. There are... none. No... others. We have no words for this feeling.

Challenge #04667-L283: Calculated Retreat

The humans rescue havenworlder colonists from a planet suddenly suffering a massive cooling trend after a super-volcanic incident on the other side of the planet plunged the planet into a sudden ice age. They had no problem with the sub-zero temperatures, but also no problem with the havenworlders needing tropical heat either. One of the rescuers smiled.

"I'm from Wisconsin on Earth, this is normal!" -- Anon Guest

[AN: Having never been anywhere near Wisconsin, I'm guessing this is one of those

Challenge #04616-L232: Disaster Relief

It was the summer harvest on a massive planet. The human colony was very small, but they had several Gyiik friends who were more than happy to help. After all, while some can be left to go to seed for the next year, it's all but a crime to let all that abundant good food go to waste. -- Anon Guest

What to do when the farm machines that had made everything easier were out of commission thanks to a rogue solar

Challenge #04484-L100: C'mon, You Know You Wanna

Humans teach some of their Galactic friends how to ride various ride-able animals. -- Anon Guest

Two bovines, three equines of varying sizes, a collection of ungulates, and a gently-swaying elephant. After that, the species available were diverse, bizarre, and generally accepted to be as dangerous as every imaginable hell. The Humans looking after the animals probably explained it all.

The saying went, If it's too big to fit in their house, the Humans will try to ride it.

This was not

Challenge #03798-J145: Let Them Eat Cheese

The humans.. they can make friends with ANYONE. They can tame almost ANY species. For as long as we can remember, the Thranityr variant known as Vorax were a scourge. They were one of the most terrifying races out there, cognizant-eaters! How.. humans have begun to befriend and change their very culture. No more killing and eating of cognizant, fewer piracy incidents.... what else is going to happen? We're not ungrateful but we have.. concerns. -- Anon Guest

Challenge #03273-H364: A Nice Warm Cuppa

They would sit as a human brushed their fur and ranted about a bad day. They sat as other humans quietly held their hands, sometimes rubbing their furry arms. This was normal for the life of a companion. If you didn't like being touched constantly, then working with humans was not for you. But they, sometimes had bad days, too, and needed someone to rant to.

But, sometimes, THEY needed someone to hold, to rant to, to cry to, about their problems.

Challenge #03262-H353: Positive Reinforcement

They had raided the ship with a band of pirates. Left behind when the others fled, the humans adopted them and began to teach them a new way. They still had to answer for the crimes they committed, but remanded into the humans' care, they began to learn how to care about others, but, more important, how to be able to care about one's self as well.

Challenge #03130-H221: But We Love Them...

The crew ends up getting stuck on a Level 2 Deathworld and the Humans tame a few of the large omnivores and train them to be ridden. At least until rescue arrives.

"No you CAN'T bring it with, Humans!" -- Anon Guest

Over half of the plantlife was generically toxic. The other half had to be processed in order to be edible more than once[1]. The wildlife was neither shy nor retiring. So, of course, the Ships' Humans flakking loved it,

Challenge #02934-H011: The Songs We Sing

give me the beat boys and free my soul

I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away -- Anon Guest

[AN: Link leads to a video with parody lyrics that is for real a 2020 mood. Offensensitivity warning for crude language]

The Humans were singing. This was nothing new. The matter of what they were singing was up to debate. The tune was familiar, but the words kept changing.

"Gimmie the yeast, boy/ and knead my rolls, I

Challenge #02919-G362: Pass It On

I'd like to know more about Human Gis and her discovery of the flower that helped ease, then cure, her bad cough and helped heal the scar tissue in her lungs. Did the kid get credit for her discovery? Maybe a bonus? And did her companion help her with her self-esteem?

It's from this story from back in May. https://peakd.com/fiction/@internutter/challenge-02685-g128-little-yellow-different -- DaniAndShali

It would eventually be named the Rentiniv Daisy, via several miscommunications and some typography errors.

Challenge #02893-G336: A Cup of Tea and a Biscuit

Ah little Pib. How about them sneaking back into the captain's quarters and trying to talk the captain into playing dress-up and having snacks, having dragged a bunch of mismatched clothing with them? :-D After all, from experience, boys and girls, don't matter, they always seem to love to play dress-up and then have snacks and juice together with their friends.

Challenge #02845-G288: Mimicry of Comfort

It is a well-known fact that humans, especially human young, are excellent mimics. However, in addition to mimicking sounds, young humans also mimic words and phrases. While the ship's adult humans set about repelling an invasion, the crew had to hide with their offspring, a human too young to do battle, but still old enough to repeat back everything their parents said when they were scared...

"It's OK, I'm here" and "they can't get past my 'rents!" and "you take deep breaths,

Challenge #02824-G267: On Inter-species Relationships

Inter-species relationships are not common but you can bet Humans have the highest percentage of them. -- Anon Guest

Love? Love is strange. Especially when it's Humans doing it. For them, love is many things and not a single one of them is rational, logical, or reasonable. There is, for instance, no reasonable reason why a Human would fall in love with a Chitanean, but they can, have, will, and do.

Love, the Humans insist on pointing out, doesn't necessarily mean that

[AN: Watch it. Be amazed]

Humans may not be the only species who have weaponised music, but they are the only ones who have weaponised it so effectively. Many have known the sheer horror of thousands of Humans with their voices raised in one song. Scarier still is one Human with some impressive vocal skills.

Soprano is just one of them. The ability to project is another. Throat singing, however, is one

Challenge #02804-G247: How Can I Help?

We're out there, you know. The people who slip through the cracks. The ones that hurt too much to really succeed but don't hurt obviously enough to get help. It's a terrible feeling, to be jealous of someone who's in more pain than you are, just because they have legally mandated support. -- Anon Guest

[AN: Speaking as someone who's lived in the cracks, I get it. It's one of the reasons my pet universe has systems that patch the cracks.]
