Hey followers,
I’m not sure how many of you are aware of the situation that has consumed my family recently, but it has now become a public matter on both tumblr and instagram and there is a lot of misinformation floating around and this is my effort to silence it. A lot of people seem to think that my 13 year old brother, Damien, has committed suicide successfully. This is absolutely untrue. After posting his suicide note on instagram (and possibly other sites too, investigations are still going on) the police came to my house on an anonymous tip that Damien had plans to end his life. I am so happy they showed up when they did. We immediately took him to recieve a psychological evaluation and the treatment he needs, and he accepted this care with a graciousness I have yet to see in any other 13 year old. Life has a new meaning in our home, and that feeling of relief was immediately replaced for me with a feeling of sickness and disgust at what proportions the internet has blown this to. My brother is not a martyr like Leelah Alcorn, he is not dead, he is not on life support. He is in a facility for suicidal kids his age from all backgrounds and has multiple group and one-on-one sessions with psychiatrists every day. He is safe and building the strength to come back home, and my parents are exploring what it means to raise a transgendered child in a healthy and supportive way. Damien, if you are reading this, I’m sorry I couldn’t say goodbye before you went to the hospital. I’m sorry if I wasn’t helpful or supportive enough. I want you to know how proud I am of you, your strength, and your maturity. I love you very very very very very much, take your time and come home when you are ready. Now for my followers and for tumblr as a whole, if you have any information on who may have called the authorities about my brother’s suicide note, please please please let me know as soon as you can. I would love to thank this mystery person from the bottom of my heart and would love to get in contact with them. All of you, go hug a trans person in your life, hug a little sibling, message someone on tumblr who’s having a hard time. Go make somebody feel loved. They deserve it 110%. If there are trans kids that see this and don’t have a support system, get in my inbox right now!! I will do everything I can to help, and as far as I’m concerned, you are all my little brothers and sisters too! Don’t be shy, sometimes all you need to do is talk it out.
