  I have now switched the onboarding process for my forum here to Admin approval and Oh. My. Glorp.

  It's honestly easier to assume that anyone new here is a spammer than an honest citizen.

  So let me tell you about my newbie vetting process:

  If your username or email is associated with some corporation, you're out. If your account is associated with recognised spammers, you're out. If my handy-dandy suss IP identifying thingie identifies you as suss, you're out. Same with suss emails. If the email used is from a previously banned account, you're out.

  If you truly, genuinely, want to be a member of this forum, then you might want to send me an email. Plead your case that you are NOT going to immediately bombard my forum with advertising for any given bullshit.

  I also learned that deleting a spammer's entire account also deletes all their posts and reduces my workload significantly. If they're dumb enough to try and sign up again? Hahahahahaha....

  Thanks to one skidmark on the underpants of humanity, I have now initiated Admin Approval for future account creation.

  This particular swipe of earwax has realised that they can delete their banned account, re-create their account, and return to smearing their grease all over the dang place. Much to my annoyance and possibly yours as well.

  Henceforth, if you look like a spammer, your account will not be approved.

  This will hopefully reduce incursions into only a pain in MY arse.

  ...until another foetid growth figures out a way around THAT.

  For those of y'all who MISS THE POINT of this forum [and probably won't read let's be honest] here's some simple steps to get all your posts deleted and your account banned with it.

  Account name matches a corporation - especially if you then post about the benefits of said corporation Posting about the benefits of some commercial site with links Blatantly showing that you have not looked at/read/understood the fucking guidelines easily available on this tiny, tiny site Be an asshole [aka reading and understanding the guidelines, and then disobeying them on purpose]

  At some point when my Beloved and I share some time to talk about it, I will add some kind of check to keep the spammers at bay. Or at least a thingie that gets them to read and understand the terms and conditions.

  Fucking spam accounts.

  My best Beloved and Grand Fixer-Upperer can't actually remember manually resetting anyone else's password [including mine] so they finally fixed the password reset feature on this website. Huzzah.

  I feel like a genius. All I had to do was log in to the Admin area and I was logged in to the forum. Still don't know why I couldn't log in here, but that's a fish for a later kettle.

  Busy weekend, this week. So we may not get around to tweaking things until the middle of next week. Pity.
