Ah, my first-ever strip. I'd just spent all day altering a 16-bit Megaman to look like EvoKurt [tricky stuff, I can tell you] and I wanted to do something with him. Now, I'm not much for jokes, or at least, I *think* I'm not much for jokes, so I decided to break the fourth wall by the second panel ^_^
The 'fourth wall' is the imaginary wall between the stage and the audience. Breaking that wall means that the characters are aware that they're in a show, etc. I think it's funny to break the fourth wall ^_^

At this point, I was still too lazy to alter another character, figuring that it'd take as much time as it took me to do Nighty ^_^ So, of course, I have a lot of NC talking to himself ;) At this point, I hadn't discovered the wonders of the polygonal lasso, so I was erasing the bottoms of the speech bubbles by hand. Daft, no?
I thought I'd be doing a lot of 'rim shots' in the future. Little did I know that I could write actual *jokes*. Strange how things work out, isn't it?

This is actually the first strip where Kurt has a mouth ;)
It also marks the point where I was bored enough to go alter a Kitty sprite for romantic interest and Pepe Le Pew type humour ^_^ However, I decided to try and run out of lonely Nightcrawler gags before I actually introduced her in strip number 7 ^_^ You can tell when I run out of jokes, most of the time. I introduce a new sprite ;)

I figured I'd better do something with the climbing Kurt sprite, and this joke was the result ^_^ Everyone who's read this one just adores the sound effects in panels 2 and 3 ;) I must say I'm fond of them, myself...
I also like the punchline. So much so that I used it again in _The Nightcrawler Movie_ ^_^

Ever came up with something you thought was funny, but it absolutely bombed? That was the point of this strip. I figured a thousand and one people used that 'hanging around' gag when Nighty does his ceiling-cling thing, so it was old before EvoKurt even got to have a go.

Aside from the hideously ugly teleport effect, I think this was the easiest strip I've ever made. Let me tell you - trying to copy the comic-style teleport is a *cow* to do. There's a smoke layer underneath, the white 'flare' layer, the text layer, and the top smoke layer. Oof. Each had to be meticulously fiddled with until it looked about right.
Of course, Kurt is as critical on the 'bamf' effect as I am ^_^

Kitty's debut! Of course, to Kurt, she's just appeared out of nowhere, because he can't really see anything that *we* can't, or he just assumes that everywhere is the same. I don't know. Either way, Kitty 'appears' and I get another chance to break the fourth wall, which is always fun.
The 'off frame' punchline is torture for Kurt because, up 'till now, he's been the only character, meaning that the frame follows him around and he can't get any rest ^_^ Torturing your characters can be subtle, sometimes.
